Spring Floral Arrangements and Color Schemes! by Ashlie Mauldin

Spring 2012 Colors

Spring is the season of transition from winter to summer! Just as the seasons transition, we too make transitions and renewals ourselves! Typically seen during this period, are a lot of flowers and floral prints as well as bright colors. Concerning fashion, free flowing loose fitting illustrations of orange, purple, green and yellow are embraced for the year of 2012. Due to the pre-winter season, you will see neutral and organic colors occasionally intertwined. All of which flow right into Interior Design!

When deciding how to change the decor in your home and revamp the look and feel for spring, I recommend beginning with a floral arrangement or photograph of your favorite flowers for inspiration. Spring is currently revolving around these amazing pieces of nature and they are a great way to develop a color scheme! After all, who knows better about colors than the originators – flowers?

I have put together some simple collaborations using couches and pillows, to demonstrate how to utilize a floral photograph for your spring design inspiration and execution. I am hoping that within these three, lies a bit of appeal to each reader! [click on each image to enlarge the detail]

Arrangement #1: Inspired by loud and beautiful Tulips, with the reds and pinks on the blue, this is for those of you that are really into bold colors and big statements.

Arrangement #2: Inspired by pink and yellow Daisy-like flowers, utilizing a mustard couch and the olive/forest green pillows, this look is for those of you who appreciate the collaboration of the vintage and modern look – big statements toned down by neutral colors.

Arrangement #3: Inspired by light and subtle Cherry Blossoms, with the use of the neutral yet still spring colors, this look is for those of you that are into simplicity and soft light colors, with a touch of a warm yellow – the color of spring 2012.

For all designs I have utilized a repetitive pillow pattern to encourage a balanced look, however, a mixture of pillows works as well, if executed properly and there are coinciding colors within each. Give it a try!

Hopefully this provided some insight and inspiration to start your spring designs! If possible, I would also suggest incorporating your inspiration within your design; it’s FUN!

Accessorize Your Life! By Ashlie Mauldin

Imagine a blank sheet of paper; now imagine a few marks of color or design either self-created or that capture your passions on the paper. Which is more appealing to the eye? If you said that the sheet of paper displaying your type of creativity, then you are more than likely passionate about designs and all types of accessories that provide design personality. Those who remain neutral or desire the blank canvas, most often have no concern yet may not be aware of just how much these things play a role in your lives. Given that all types of accessories are mandatory in life, let’s discuss the ways we can utilize them to our advantage.

Foremost, let’s transfer the blank canvas theory over to Fashion. We need to view our clothing as just that, a blank canvas waiting to be decorated. The next time you opt for the “little black dress”, as we all know will forever remain a constant in the fashion world; or the plain black button up, make sure to decorate that canvas. This can be done  with a colorful scarf, which I believe can be worn any time of the season, however, for most it is appropriate due to current cold weather. The great thing about scarves is that there are a number of different ways that they can be worn. Taking advantage of this versatility will not only redefine the dress, but assist in the transformation of a daily wardrobe to night on the town attire.

In addition to clothing whether man or woman, we may be unaware that as humans who live and breathe design and accessories on a daily basis, each are utilized and experienced regularly in our lives. From the painting hanging on the wall above  the pillows displayed on the sofas in the waiting room of our Doctor’s office soothing our nerves, to the way the booths are upholstered at that favorite restaurant stimulating our appetite; we are surrounded by colors, designs and shapes that affect our moods and emotions subconsciously. For those of us possessing a passion for fashion or interior design, these details may be noticed on a higher level or take more of an immense affect on our every day lives.

Prior, we referenced the blank sheet of paper and plain black dress, let us now place ourselves in a room with plain white walls; how do we feel? Is this the moment when we realize that we have great appreciation for those photographs that hang in our place of work that accent the painted walls surrounding provoking creativity?  For those of us that work outside, each and every leaf on each and every tree, as well as every cloud in the sky and the way the sun shines through them are all nature’s accessories once more influencing our souls.

Again, though a room is furnished, does not mean it is no longer a blank canvas post furnishing. Just as I would recommend the utilization of a bracelet or watch resembling the scarf to tie in the attire as a whole; the same applies when designing or decorating a room. We reference accessories like pillows, lamps, pictures, mirrors, curtains, wallpaper, wall coverings, rugs and more to provide the finishing touches of the space. The accessories must be chosen very carefully and with much thought; as they can make or break a design as well customize a room for everyday use and special events.

Just as the black dress would stand alone as a black dress, so would this living room with the white couch and end tables, however, when accessories are embraced in both aspects of life, it makes things that much more marvelous.

Hotel Whitcomb – San Francisco Project by Ashlie Mauldin

Futura Interiors was fortunate enough to acquire and complete an interior design project for a hotel in San Francisco by the name of Hotel Whitcomb. The hotel was established in the early 20th – century and holds an array of history.  The historical landmark’s vision was customization, allowing for a number of suite concepts with the ability to appeal to different consumers and residence of the hotel for the duration of their stay. In order to achieve this, each individual suite was designed apart from another, creating different atmospheres within the spaces.

In addition to the design aspect of the project, Futura Interiors bared the resources to supply all FF&E for the project. Futura Interiors is extremely proud of the outcome and was happy to assist Hotel Whitcomb in the renovation of their suites. On the Hotel’s website, under “Rooms and Suites”, Hotel Whitcomb raves, “The hotel’s 460 spacious and beautifully-appointed guestrooms and 12 parlor suites deliver a luxurious hospitality experience with an array of modern amenities and exceptional value.  For an unforgettable experience, the Penthouse Governor’s Suite offers spectacular views of San Francisco.”   As well it is described by the facility itself as, “A unique mix of vintage hospitality and urban convenience.”

Here are some photographs of the suites, designed and supplied by Futura Interiors:

Million Dollar Baby Project by Ashlie Mauldin

In 2011, Futura Interiors had the opportunity of designing an office space for the Million Dollar Baby company and their team. Futura assisted Million Dollar Baby, manufacturer of convenient baby bedroom decor, such as baby cribs, railings, dressers, storage units and more, in transforming the company warehouse located in El Monte, California into a fun and inspirational yet professional working environment. The Futura Interiors design specialist utilized a variety of colors, such as yellow, purple, orange and green on the walls throughout the entire facility. In order to assist the Million Dollar Baby team with the creative process, in the conference room, a multicolored abstract striped carpet was laid as well as Idea Paint, a product from MDC Flooring, was utilized on a select wall allowing the wall to double as a white board. The combination of these two tactics will aid in the expansion of team and product ideas and allow endless space to map the ideas out.

Along the stair case, Futura Interiors opted for a mock brick wall to create texture and personality in the office, as the employees transition from the first to the second floor of the facility. As well, the stair case consists of suspended Mahogany wood, creating a very modern appeal that is pleasing to the eye. With hanging oval shaped lights shining down onto the wood, to compliment the material, the stair case is an all around beauty.

For the open cubicle area of the Milllion Dollar Baby warehouse turned office, Futura Interiors utilized a simple brown carpet to coincide with the mock brick wall from the stair case leading down into the area. With a green based paint on one side of the stair case and a purple color and floral decal on the opposing side, this area of the office bares a vibrant visual.

The Futura Interior team is extremely proud of the Million Dollar Baby project outcome. Allow the photographs to further illustrate the work.
